Cash transactions are in decline

The UK has witnessed a sustained and significant decline in the use of cash over the years, with consumers increasingly turning away from cash in favour of using debit cards instead. In 2017, debit card payments first overtook cash transactions and since then the global Covid-19 pandemic has pushed this trend further - just one in six transactions in 2020 were paid with cash in 2020.

Customers now expect a contactless payment option as standard wherever they go, with one in four not even carrying cash anymore. Home Leisure Direct saw this trend and pioneered a contactless payment option for use on competitive socialising products which has a focus design-wise on the hospitality industry.

Proven revenue increases

In 2019 we ran a 9-month long trial comparing the performance on over 50 pool tables in multiple venues to compare the revenue on contactless payment vs cash payment tables. The findings were quite staggering with revenue increasing on average by 125% on the contactless payment tables vs the cash tables.

Our simple & easy tech

Unlike other solutions, we have designed our system from the ground up with venues in mind to give them a complete end-to-end solution. The reader itself is extremely robust and boasts a video screen enabling a unique advertising opportunity, as well as easy step-by-step guides for the customer.

In addition to the contactless reader, we have developed a rechargeable battery that negates the need for permanent under-table power which can be extremely costly to retrofit. This is all backed up with a market-leading back-end reporting system that can be tailored to your needs from single-site venues to multi chains.'

Not just for pool tables

Developing this contactless payment reader meant recreating an electronic version of the manual release for a game usually carried out by customers pushing a coin arm into the table. Once this technological gap was crossed, we found we were able to roll out the same technology from pool tables across our range of competitive socialising products.

This means that the contactless payment reader option is available on any commercial product which traditionally takes coin payments. This includes pinball machines, air hockey tables, skee-ball machines, football tables and more.
