Our Rock-Ola 1468 Tempo 1 is a jukebox made in 1959. It plays 7" records at 45 RPM, so if you have a vinyl collection tucked away somewhere safe, it could be time to dust off those wonderful old records and get them loaded up into this beautiful jukebox.
A Brief History:
In 1959 Rock-Ola introduced a new cabinet design, the Tempo models 1475 (200 selections) and 1468 (120 selections), with both available as stereo or mono.
They were auto-styled, like many of the other silver age jukeboxes of this era, with the wraparound glass design and liberal use of chrome to create two "fins" either side of the control panel, just like on the 1958 Chevrolet Impala.
Pale-blue ribbed and anodised panels flanked the speaker screen and fenced off the back of the mechanism, so that the gripper bow plucked a record from an almost hidden carousel.
The Rock-Ola 1468 Tempo 1 employs an ingenious system for track selection. You firstly select the type of music you prefer from the three buttons situated in the top panel. Some versions had a simple "A", "B", "C" set of buttons, others use dedicated lit panels, like ours, which has "Hit Tunes", "Rhythm and Blues" and "Favourites".
To then view the music selection available you rotate the title card drum and spot your tune of choice, then press the corresponding numerical buttons on the control panel situated in the middle of the jukebox.
The iconic design of the Rock-Ola Tempo models made it the jukebox of choice for the popular music panel show hosted by David Jacobs. The show ran from 1959 to 1967 and used the Tempo model II which sported the boomerang design motif on the speaker grill, which you can see below.
Original Condition:
Our Rock-Ola 1486 Tempo 1 is in great original condition. In fact it has been so well kept we have elected to leave her as she is. There is very minor pitting to the chrome, the sides of the cabinet are a little dented due to their soft metal construction, and one of the plastic panels to the side of the control panel has a crack in the left hand side.
She does show her age, but this is part of the machine's history, being well over 50 years old now. It has been fully serviced and lubricated and will give years of pleasure.

This jukebox is fitted with castors, which make it far easier to move, but please be aware that they can damage wooden floors. We recommend placing rugs, mats or pieces of carpet under the castors to ensure no damage occurs.
Coin Mechanism:
We sell our restored, reconditioned and used products to home users, as a result a functioning coin mechanism is not necessary, because the machine can just be set to freeplay. Many of the coin mechanisms are configured to take foreign coins or denominations which are no longer in circulation, therefore it can be difficult to actually find a coin to use in it.
Therefore we sell all these types of products as freeplay only, with the coin mechanism either not working or disconnected. You may find that it does in fact work fine, or will do so with a little WD40 and kind attention, as many won't have been used for years.
Warranty:
The Rock-Ola 1468 Tempo 1 comes with 30 days warranty, to cover parts and labour. Our specialist repairer will call to your home to inspect and repair your machine. If parts are required which are not carried at the time these will need to be ordered for you, and will sometimes need to be imported from the States, therefore there can be a fairly long wait for the part to arrive.
After our 30 days warranty has expired we can put you in touch with experienced technicians in your area who will be able to carry out any repairs you need.
Jukeboxes are complicated items, which don't like being moved about. Nor do they like the cold or humidity. Therefore if you chose to move the jukebox from where we originally installed it, or it is stored in a cold or damp location our warranty will become null and void. We will also not be able to carry out any work on your machine free of charge if you have tampered with it in any way.
We have years of experience in owning and selling jukeboxes. If you look after your machine and treat it well it will give you years of trouble free enjoyment.
Commercial Use:
Where a used/secondhand/reconditioned item is not being used in a home, but is instead being placed in a commercial location such as a bar, pub, cafe, restaurant, bowling alley, trampoline park, youth club, office, factory, or similar, we will offer a 30 day on-site service warranty should any problems occur which are not a result of any misuse or malicious damage. This warranty will cover parts and labour.
